Business Owners: Why Your Social Media Plan is Failing...

A lot of businesses think they have a content problem. They actually have a context problem. They post what everyone else in their category is posting, with no clear sense of why a stranger should care today. The result is the same handful of ideas recycled into different formats, chasing small bumps in reach that do not translate to actual momentum.

Instead of starting with “What should we post this week”, start with “What do we want to be known for a year from now”. If you cannot answer that, no calendar will save you. Once you do answer it, every post becomes a small brick in that direction. You can say no to trends that do not fit. You can stop filling the feed for the sake of it.

A simple rule of thumb is that every piece of content should do one of three jobs. Help someone understand you. Help someone trust you. Help someone remember you. If a post does not hit at least one of those, it probably does not need to exist. This is where a thoughtful creative partner is more useful than a generic “content service”. You are not buying volume. You are investing in clarity.

Context also shows up in where you show up. Canberra is full of small pockets of attention that never touch each other. The people at a local theatre performance are not always the people scrolling hospitality hashtags at midnight. Telling the same story in both places with sensitivity to each space is boring on a spreadsheet and brilliant in real life.
